My Story

I've always had a love for writing, and, in a way, I became a storyteller by accident. It all started when I was very young. I LOVED reading and even earned awards for it in school. I was the quintessential bookworm (they should have put a picture of me in the dictionary).

My passion for reading eventually transformed into keeping extensive journals and writing poetry. Soon, I began making my own books, literally binding paper and filling the pages with sketches and poems. My love for bookmaking grew through college courses, and I once gifted my middle school teacher a book of poetry I made from construction paper, filled with my poems and sketches – a treasured addition to our classroom bookshelf.

I became a short story, prose, and poetry writer. My journey continued in college, where I studied creative writing and learned to write in an abstract manner. (Thanks, Gertrude Stein!) I also explored 'Experimental Autobiography,' honing my skills in crafting unique narratives. However, translating these skills into a career was another story entirely.

My path to copywriting began after a profound personal loss – the passing of my daughter, Emerson. Mid-pandemic, I discovered I was pregnant. That pregnancy nearly ended both my life and hers. Emerson was born at 25 weeks, weighing just one pound and three ounces. She needed to stay in the Neonatal ICU. A week later, we found she had heart conditions, prompting an urgent transfer to a more experienced NICU.

Three months on, an MRI revealed a mass in her neck and chest, intertwined with critical arteries and nerves, rendering her heart nearly inoperable. Despite a successful surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital, Emerson developed complications and ultimately passed away. Losing her left me feeling utterly alone and useless, destined for a life of emptiness and tragedy.

Seven months later, I realized I could change my narrative. My story didn’t have to be dark and empty. I didn’t have to go through life alone or struggle with unfulfilling jobs. Emerson inspired me to chase my dreams and see the good in everything. This new perspective drives me to help you transform your ideas into high-impact copy that authentically connects with your audience.

Emerson Joy

I believe Emerson is a force of magic.

She’s the reason I have the career and life that I now have. She transformed me in more ways than one. She’s a constant beacon of strength and inspiration, even though we didn’t have enough time together. Despite being tiny, she had a massive impact on everyone who met her.

Emerson’s courage and strength continue to inspire me every day. I hope to see the good in every moment and to live life with purpose and passion.

She’s my guiding light, my guardian angel.

I love you, my sweet girl.
